Karen has been an amazing and patient teacher. Perhaps being, ahem, a few years older her core clientele, I have seriously appreciated her support and understanding around the juggle of learning to drive alongside a full time job and two young kids. 

Karen inspires confidence. She always went at my pace and focussed on safety - obviously even more in the fore front of your mind when you’re going to be driving your kids around. But balanced this with ensuring we were making good progress and I wasn’t staying in my comfort zone. Karen has a clear way of explaining things and made lessons enjoyable and fun. Refresher Lesson for Senior Citizen

Increased traffic, road conditions and changing to a different car motivated me to book a driving lesson.

I wanted to practice reversing, entering a fast road from slip road, roundabouts and queries specific to the new car. All these topics were covered in the 90 minute lesson.

Hints on reversing were a revelation to me as hadn’t even realised the car wheels should be straight in preparation to reverse!

The correct use of gears was useful as found I was over the speed limit on the Boars Hill Road. Karen advised a lower gear to make me more aware of speed and also to listen to the car sound. I had never heard of block change which is useful.

Like many older drivers I probably drive too slowly causing frustration to others so we practised entering the A34 from a slip-road and maintaining an appropriate speed.

I would recommend Karen for her calm, reassuring manner and professional teaching skills,

Having previously postponed indefinitely driving lessons with another instructor due to the stress of learning to drive in the middle of A level exams, then taking a three year break for university, I was perhaps understandably a little bit apprehensive about getting back in a car again, but Karen has been amazing. Where to start? Karen has been completely and utterly amazing as my driving instructor. I’d had quite negative experiences with previous instructors who made me feel nervous and reluctant to ever drive. Thankfully, I found Karen and her faultless style of tuition. My time in the car with her was fun, calm and tailored to what I was comfortable with - she showed me how to drive safely, but I could be myself and handle each stage my own way. If something didn’t work, she would find a new way to do it (parallel parking for one!) and showed constant patience and understanding. As an anxious and reluctant driver, Karen built up my confidence and got me through. I jokingly called her my therapist and counsellor too! We had such a laugh. I passed after a year when I was ready and it felt like such an achievement from all my perseverance. I can’t thank Karen enough.

Karen is absolutely brilliant, I can't recommend her enough. Having spent months with 2 previous instructors only to just get the basics of driving, Karen took just 8 weeks from my first lesson to pass my test.

She clearly spends a lot of time preparing her lessons which not only means as much as possible is crammed in the lessons but you also get highly professional tuition. She gives great advice and has every lesson planned out, but also makes adjustments based on identifying your strengths and weaknesses or how you feel about different aspects. I can't praise Karen enough - she is an absolute diamond.   I passed my driving test over 30 years ago, but hadn't driven for over 10 years & had totally lost my confidence. A forthcoming move to a more rural area meant that I could no longer rely on public transport or my bike, so I knew I had to start driving again - eek!   

I got in touch with Karen for some refresher lessons & she messaged me straight back.   We arranged an initial outing to see how things went & amazingly, I really enjoyed myself (& Karen’s mini is just brilliant fun to drive!).   We discussed what I wanted to get from the refresher lessons, & Karen organised a programme for me - focusing on areas that I was particularly nervous about (for me this was big busy roundabouts & faster roads).  When I felt nervous about a particular situation, Karen put me at my ease with patience & good humour.   Thanks to Karen I now feel confident to get back behind the wheel.  All driving instructors aren’t the same – Karen is totally brilliant & in a league of her own!

I have had driving lessons with Karen since my 17th birthday and every lesson I have left feeling that I had improved with a variety of new skills. Karen’s teaching style was to push me out of my comfort zone because she understood what I was capable of at every point (the dreaded emergency stop). Karen has taught me both how to drive correctly and safely for my test as well as teaching me important skills and manoeuvres and talking me through potential scenarios that are crucial for ‘real life driving’. After having my ups and downs with driving and finding it all very overwhelming I turned to Karen to help. Kind, understanding and patient are words that describe Karen and her teaching approach. I grew up with Karen’s son, so was so pleased when she started her driving school. From lesson one she put me at ease, extremely calm and patient... a great teacher. She quickly identified areas for me to concentrate on, which was great especially when I was having extra lessons with my dad. She even went to the effort of taking me out in my own car to give me some pointers for when I passed my test. A superb instructor that I would highly recommend.

Karen is a very calm instructor and she made sure I did everything correctly and safely and I appreciate her for taking my lessons. I had my first lesson a day after my birthday in February, and after eventually battling through my theory she said I was finally ready for my test. And I happily passed my test! Thankyou Karen!

I really want to thank Karen for the immense time and patience that had been shown to me whilst taking my driving lessons.  Today I passed my test having been learning in a MINI.  Being 6ft 2, I wouldn't of thought this day would of come. Karen taught me to drive as soon as I was 17 - so I had no experience. Karen did not only teach me how to pass my driving test, but driving skills for life and safety. Karen is extremely calm and we always had a good laugh, which made it even more enjoyable. I’d definitely recommended anyone to drive with KBDS.

I started lessons with Karen on my 17th birthday.  She was calm and patient and very quickly I made good progress.  Although I failed my first test, I think because I was really nervous, I passed next time with flying colours!
